Treatment Philosophy
Emotional and behavioral problems can often seem overwhelmingly complex with no end in sight . Change requires fitting together the pieces of the "puzzle" that contribute to the difficult problem or situation for developing a clearer picture of what the problem is and where resolutions lie. Specialized services are offered to meet the needs of children, families and adults who are experiencing emotional, behavioral and/or social distress for enhancing their well-being.
Progress, and change, can and often do happen. Millions of children and adults have found relief from family conflict, emotional and behavioral disorders, life and work stressors, and school problems through psychotherapy or "talk therapy." Numerous studies have indicated that individuals and families who are willing to work closely with a psychologist can often find relief from their emotional distress and begin to lead more productive and fulfilling lives.
Treatment goals are developed for promoting emotional growth, positive relationships, personal values, educational achievement and appropriate behavioral patterns in the home, at school/work and in the community.
Counseling and evaluation services are offered for children and adolescents with a strong emphasis on family involvement. It is important to assess children within the context of their family, school, and other systems of which they are a part. A treatment model that emphasizes sessions with the child and the parents/caretakers, alone, as well as together, are an important component in a best practices model.
